When people suffer with acne, they will be the first to tell you that there are many articles and information about acne prone skin care that discusses how to care for and eliminate acne. However, while all this information is great, all acne sufferers ultimately want is to clear their acne and avoid outbreaks in the future.

It is generally a good idea to not use facial cleansing products that are harsh on your skin such as gritty exfoliates, strong toners and astringents, and even harsh masks. When purchasing acne treatment products, look for ones that are specifically formulated for your skin type, along with the treatment of acne. A lot of people make the mistake of using products that are not formulated for the treatment of acne and are made for persons with normal or dry skin. In such cases, the acne can become worse making it more difficult for the individual to eliminate their acne.

Another thing for a person with acne to avoid is touching their face with their fingertips or hands, as this can certainly aggravate the skin causing acne breakouts. Touching the face also includes any squeezing or pimple popping. Aside from the touching, this is a bad habit that can leave scars, as well as worsen existing acne.

When caring for acne, it is important to be aware of the oil content in products, as oil adds to acne breakouts. Therefore, you should pay close attention to your hair products, sunscreens, moisturizers and make-up as they can all contain some form of oil. Clogged pores result in part from excess oil. Therefore, it would be beneficial to switch to water-soluble, oil-free products whenever possible.

When battling acne, knowing the proper acne prone skin care procedures is critical. One such process is washing the face which requires that you do not over cleanse so not to dry out the skin or cause excess oils to be produced. Using non-abrasive, no alcohol cleansers is best for cleaning acne prone faces.

If you are suffering with acneic skin, then it is recommended by dermatologists to wash only twice per day unless you have perspired heavily from sporting or outdoor activities. Scrubbing acne with anything abrasive will only make it worse so avoid the temptation to do so. After you have gently washed your face, you can apply acne medication that has been prescribed by a dermatologist or bought over the counter. Follow with the application of an oil-free moisturizer and/or make-up.

Another important factor in the treatment of acne is the use of sunscreen as sun rays can cause damage to the skin. When using acne products and medications, sunscreen should be added as some of these medication causes the skin to become much more sensitive to the sun which can cause burning sensations.
